Sounds like a great program, I wonder how many children that are treated the same way as the infant when they are an infant innately contain a greater level of empathy. The green blanket (which represents new life and nature) seems silly.
Ya, the symbolism is silly, but it's also a way to introduce a concept to the kids. That's what symbols are for.
We don't really know the answer to your question, but we do know the opposite - about how not being treated with empathy affects children. It's called "attachment disorder."
